I went out on the Copahee Sound again on my kayak near Charleston, SC. My plan was to try and get on a good speckled trout bite using artificials. The main lure I wanted to use was these extra wide gap (EWG) weedless ned rig jigs I got from Bellaire Jigs out in Michigan, and man did they deliver this day. I didn't get any monster trout, but it was almost constant action for the first 2 hours I was out there. I was using my ultralight star rod spooled up with 10lb braid to make sure I could still cast a long distance even with these light jigs. Because the ned rig baits tend to have a small profile they can usually cut through the wind easily and can be cast a mile. Pleasant, SC to target some flounder on the ned rig during a falling tide. I ended up getting on a nice, solid bite that ended up getting me an inshore slam on the kayak! I mainly ended up fishing around structure including some old bridge pilings and the pilings of a walking pier. I’m definitely going to spend some more time fishing structure moving forward, and thanks to the weedless ned rig jigs I didn’t lose 100 jigs while I was fishing around oyster beds and rocks. I got a big overslot redfish (red drum), a keeper speckled trout, a small flounder as well as a few other smaller drum!
